Great local treats for just $1

A lot, apparently.

We scouted round sunny Singapore and turned up some fantastic food finds priced at just $1.

And in some cases, they were even under $1. Here are our finds:

WHAT: $1 popiah

WHERE: Rojak, popiah & cockle stall (#01-56), Maxwell Food Centre

Do try out the popiah here.

The delicious turnip filling comes with all sorts of ingredients, such as ground peanuts and eggs.

The popiah skin is not too dry and the filling is quite flavourful.

WHAT: $1 curry puffs

WHERE: Min Eryimin, 4 Short Street

City dwellers looking for cheap but tasty treats should head to Min Eryimin, which is located between Dhoby Ghaut and Little India.

The curry puffs are delicious. They have delightfully crunchy outer layers with yummy potato filling inside.

They are served piping hot, so eat with caution.

WHAT: $1 pancakes, 90-cent crispy pancakes

WHERE: Jollibean outlets islandwide

Enjoy tasty, healthy and affordable pancakes from Jollibean outlets.

They come in various flavours such as red bean, green bean, peanut, lotus, corn, cheese and even green tea.

Those who appreciate a crunchy bite should try out their crispy pancakes.

WHAT: 80-cent you tiaos

WHERE: Yong Soon You Tiao stalls at Jurong East MRT and Hougang Mall

If you are craving for fried Chinese goodies, then Yong Soon You Tiao has just the thing to hit the spot.

They offer fragrant you tiaos and delicious jian pings to whet your appetite - all at very affordable prices.

WHAT: $1 pie

WHERE: Pie Kia outlets islandwide

The uniquely Singaporean Pie Kia outlets have more than just a cute name to get your attention.

Their pies are available at even more eye-catching prices. Choose from a wide selection of flavours like Mexican, beef, sardine and curry chicken.

The smell of the pies had me salivating, and the taste didn't disappoint either.

WHAT: $1 sweet potato soup

WHERE: De Cai Dessert stall (#01-344N) 75 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh (opposite block 50)

De Cai Desserts stall offers great sweet potato soup.

Available hot or cold, they come with big, thick slices of sweet potato.

Try the hot one as an appetiser and save the cold version for dessert.

You'll also find $1 chendol here.

WHAT: 65-cent bread (Above, $1.80 for three; $2.80 for five pieces)

WHERE: Four Leaves bakeries islandwide

You'll love the wide range of choice from the Mini World series.

Available at Four Leaves bakeries islandwide, pastry lovers will be spoiled for choice, with more than 20 items to pick from.

WHAT: 50-cent kuihs

WHERE: Ernie's (#B1-12), Dhoby Xchange

Drop by for some Malay kuihs at an extremely reasonable price. Choose from well-loved classics such as curry puffs, kuih lapis and vadai.

The kuihs are available from 8am till 11am on weekdays. Drop by this Halal certified place if you want to pick a quick bite on your way to work.
