Singapore's first gold

BOWLER New Hui Fen clinched Singapore's first gold medal of the Asian Youth Games yesterday.

The pressure was on yesterday at the girls' bowling singles at Orchid Country Club.

The first game that 17-year-old New (above) bowled may have been disconcerting seeing that she only scored 192 pinfalls as compared to the highest score of the 246 by fellow Singaporean Anthea Sow.

However New didn't give in, she kept a cool head and made an astounding comeback in the following games, scoring strike after strike.

At the end of the six games, New secured Singapore's first gold with a total score of 1,359 pinfalls.
